I just recently watched the film Memoirs of a Geisha. It was a wonderful movie and inspired me to post this pictures of real Geisha's from the 20's and 30's.

"If you don't look good, We don't look good, Vidal Sassoon!"
The new Bio/Doc about the life of Vidal Sassoon is out soon. The film premiered at the 2010 Tribeca Film Festival with good reviews, this an excerpt from the Hollywood Reporter.
"As the film chronicles the radical cutting style Sassoon developed in the early '60s, someone points out the social impact of freeing women from their weekly primp-and-perm appointments -- cutting their hair in such a way that gravity did much of the styling work for them until time for the next cut.
Its talking heads come exclusively from the fashion/hair world, but the film benefits from long, likable interviews with the man himself. The worst thing is the possibility viewers will leave humming a jingle they may have managed to purge from their heads two decades ago: "If you don't look good / We don't look good / Vidal Sassoon!"

The Ziegfeld Follies
The Ziegfeld Follies were a group of beautiful women and performers who were in musical productions on Broadway. From 1907 to 1936 Klaw & Erlanger produced enchanting and very lavish shows. The Ziegfeld Follies were inspired by the Folies Bergères of Paris. The show was conceived by Florenz Ziegfeld. I love watching these old musicals, Ziegfeld's shows in particular.

When I first veiwed this video I wanted to post it right away, I did, and then erased it immediately after reading the words rapper Wanga says in Xhosa " I dont want to go to the bush with you, dont touch my penis im not a gay, this penis is for the girls, my penis is clean, my penis is strong....." I took the words as homophobic. Later I learned Xhosa culture is "un-fokking-believeably homophobic" in an interveiw with Ninja from Die Antwoord. This is the interveiw which swayed my mind enough to still post this visually creative video and beats. Although I must say i do not encourage the use of the word gay as a derogatory term.

Rooney Mara.
I didn't get a chance to see the film yet, but have heard great reviews about The Girl With A Dragon Tattoo. Rooney Mara, the films lead actress makes an incredible transformation into her character Lisbeth Salander. Here on the cover of Febuary's W magazine she was styled as Lisbeth and you will see what I mean. I love the wig they use for her character, and if I was to cut my hair short again I would want it to be a bad-ass cut like this!!

ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS - Best of Series 1
If you love Fashion, and a good laugh then you will love Absolutely Fabulous! The show is about the shenanigans of Patsy and Eddy. Patsy a once great model and Eddy is the editor of a fashion mag. They spend their time shopping, drinking, doing drugs and trying to get skinny, have sex and, sometimes, Eddy goes to work. The show has been rumoured to be coming back sometime this year. I am so excited. Although it wont be with the same characters as the sitcom, it should be good.

This is the 4th performance this year from Glam Gam Productions. I was lucky enough to be involved in their Halloween performance and again for this Christmas show. Tonight is the final night and we are hoping for big crowd! Come out and see the show!

Another artist I enjoy following is Mark Jenkins. www.xmarkjenkinsx.com Most of his art pieces are instillation's made from packing tape, sometimes he creates real life people too, which are very interesting. His art has been shown in galleries around the world.
On his site Aakash writes: My street work consists of mostly isometric triangles and squares. I selectively place these graphics around New York to highlight the contours and elegant geometry of the city itself. I'm trying to offer the people a chance to step into a different New York than they are used to seeing and in turn momentarily escape routine scheduled lives. I think this is a great statement on why street art is so great. It gives a break from it all and allows us to imagine through the eyes of the artist. Its not in a gallery or on a wall in someones house. Its on our streets where everyone can see it, where it supposed to be so hopefully it can have that effect on us all.
