Busy Busy Busy

Ive been so busy this last couple weeks Ive had no time to post. I was very fortunate to do the hair of a group of performers and musicians from Serbia. It was an amazing experience to work with all these kids and thank my lucky stars for the opportunity. The show was for 6 days at The International Festival de Jazz Montreal. I will post a picture or two soon.

An invitation to celebrate, GRUBB takes on the challenge of giving voice to a people who are never heard, the Roma. Led by Serge Denoncourt, this unprecedented humanitarian artistic event recounts the reality and life of young Roma today through music, movement and theatrical performance... A completely new kind of hip-hop, blending with tradtional Roma music; a musical first! With, among others, dancer and choreographer Nico Archambault, actor, director and master of metamorhposis Arturo Brachetti, video whizzes Olivier Goulet and Gabriel Coutu-Dumont, costume designer François Barbeau and the music of Francis Collard.... If Looks can Kill.

After some time away Glam Gam is back in full production mode...but something is not quite right within The Glamily. Ever since the polyamorous triad Sarah, Michael and Julie invited the other members over for a reunion dinner party cabaret, tensions have been rising on the set.... and so has the body count!!!
Join us for an evening of burlesque, mystery and murder at Café Cléopâtre. Help Sherlock Homo and his sidekick solve the case and win a slutty prize!

After the show, stick around for a hot and sweaty dance party with the surviving members of the cast hosted by DJ Shocked N' Whorified.

Here's a little preview of what could happen if tensions aren't resolved

Slutwalk Montreal

Following the statement made a representative from the Toronto police force that "women should avoid dressing sluts in order not be victimized", Torontonians took to the street and marched against victim blaming and a mentality of teaching women how not to get raped as opposed to teaching men how not to rape. - http//www.girlsaction.org

Monday May 29th, Montreal did the same. What a successful event!! There was alot of Media coverage. The wonderful Burlesque troop Glam Gam also put on a sexy show at Le Drugstore in the village afterwards.

See you soon.

Oprah on Vogue's October 1998 issue. Yesterday was her last show after 25 years. I have watched her show since I was 14, I grew up with the stories she and her guests shared. I have many memories of favorite shows that have made me laugh and cry. Thank you Oprah.

Boggie Nights

I'm absolutely loving all this 70's hair and make-up that's been seen all over the runway. Big hair has been due for a comeback for a while. Put down your straighteners ladies, and let your natural kink come out!

Geisha

I just recently watched the film Memoirs of a Geisha. It was a wonderful movie and inspired me to post this pictures of real Geisha's from the 20's and 30's.

"If you don't look good, We don't look good, Vidal Sassoon!"

The new Bio/Doc about the life of Vidal Sassoon is out soon. The film premiered at the 2010 Tribeca Film Festival with good reviews, this an excerpt from the Hollywood Reporter.

"As the film chronicles the radical cutting style Sassoon developed in the early '60s, someone points out the social impact of freeing women from their weekly primp-and-perm appointments -- cutting their hair in such a way that gravity did much of the styling work for them until time for the next cut.
Its talking heads come exclusively from the fashion/hair world, but the film benefits from long, likable interviews with the man himself. The worst thing is the possibility viewers will leave humming a jingle they may have managed to purge from their heads two decades ago: "If you don't look good / We don't look good / Vidal Sassoon!"

The Ziegfeld Follies

The Ziegfeld Follies were a group of beautiful women and performers who were in musical productions on Broadway. From 1907 to 1936 Klaw & Erlanger produced enchanting and very lavish shows. The Ziegfeld Follies were inspired by the Folies Bergères of Paris. The show was conceived by Florenz Ziegfeld. I love watching these old musicals, Ziegfeld's shows in particular.

When I first veiwed this video I wanted to post it right away, I did, and then erased it immediately after reading the words rapper Wanga says in Xhosa " I dont want to go to the bush with you, dont touch my penis im not a gay, this penis is for the girls, my penis is clean, my penis is strong....." I took the words as homophobic. Later I learned Xhosa culture is "un-fokking-believeably homophobic"  in an interveiw with Ninja from Die Antwoord. This is the interveiw which swayed my mind enough to still post this visually creative video and beats. Although I must say i do not encourage the use of the word gay as a derogatory term.
